Catherine's Annual Christmas Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The central message of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
