Iran Claims Strike on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
