Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
