‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Emotional Homage to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed her in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
